Story
A guy named Jann loves playing a racing video game called Gran Turismo. His dream is to become a real racing driver. There’s a competition called GT Academy that can turn gamers into real racers. Jann’s family isn’t thrilled about his racing dreams.
Jann qualifies for GT Academy, but before the big race, he gets into trouble at a party with his brother. He promises to take the blame so his brother won’t get in trouble.
At the academy, a tough coach named Jack trains Jann and others. Jann crashes during a test, but he turns out to be right about what caused it. In the end, it’s down to Jann and an American guy named Matty for a spot on Nissan’s racing team.
Jann wins, but some people think Matty is better for marketing. Despite this, Jann gets chosen. Now, he has to prove himself in real races. There’s a tough moment in a race in Austria where he finishes last, but he keeps improving.
In his last chance race in Dubai, Jann finishes fourth, earning him a pro racing license. He goes to Tokyo to sign a contract and brings his crush Audrey with his signing bonus.
However, in his first big race at Nürburgring, there’s a terrible accident, and Jann blames himself. His coach Jack, who also had a bad accident, helps him get back on track.
To show that gamers can be great racers, they decide to compete at Le Mans. Jann, Matty, and another guy named Antonio form a team. It’s a tough race, but they manage to finish third, proving that gamers can be successful racers.
In the end, it’s revealed that the real Jann Mardenborough, who the story is based on, has competed in many races and even did his own stunts in the movie.
